Historical Forts#1 - Fort Fincastle

Take a tour of Fort Charlotte, Nassau Bahamas. This is my favorite fort as it holds a lot of memories and has a spectacular view of the popular Arawak Cay harbor and Paradise Island.

Fort Charlotte is the largest and most interesting of the three forts found in Nassau. Built in 1789 by Lord Dunmore and named in honor of the wife of King George III.This fort has never fired a shot in Battle. It includes a water-less moat, draw-bridge, ramparts and dungeons. Fort Charlotte commands a fine view of Nassau Harbor.

Classic Bahamian Breakfast

Listen when you come to the Bahamas you have to check your diet at the border.  We are solid women for a reason and skinny foreigners will never be as satisfied as us in every area.  You get me?  Thats why you have to embrace the culture and the easiest way to do that is to try the food.  Hmm Hmm Good.

Here we have a belly pleaser if ever there was one and once you are not a vegetarian you will love this dish.  Its called steamed sausage and corned beef with grits.  Its warm, its savory and when a Bahamian is missing home a picture like this gets the saliva glands going and the belly rumbling.

High In Calories But Even Higer in Taste

The Conch Salad

There is no way you can say that this is not a Bahamian tradition, so much so that we don’t even consider it anything more than what it is, FOOD.  The conch salad is a local dish that contains only 9 ingredients:
  1. ‘Fresh’ Conch (straight out of the shell)
  2. Lots of Lemon/Lime we say ‘Sour’
  3. Goat Pepper…Yeah the good hot stuff
  4. Onions
  5. Tomatoes
  6. Salt
  7. Sweet Pepper
  8. Juice from a nice sized orange
  9. Finally, your share enjoyment.
Enjoy!!!!
